Volunteers from Cardiff Rivers Group continued to improve the rivers of Cardiff yesterday as they litter-picked the banks of the River Taff. See pics here
20 volunteers spent a glorious (yet freezing), winter’s morning tackling all the unsightly rubbish that has been caught on the bankside vegetation. Despite temperatures being below zero, the team donned waders to get in the river and together they collected 26 bags of rubbish, 5 bags of recycling, 2 trollies, car tyres, roadside barriers, football and a bread crate (which 3 volunteers determinedly spent 30 mins digging out with shovels!).
All rubbish was disposed of by Cardiff County Council’s Parks Department.
Louise Tambini, of Cardiff Rivers Group said, “Today was yet another successful event from Cardiff Rivers Group – every week I am amazed that so many people come along, whatever the weather! Today we even had a new volunteer who read about project last week in the local paper”.
“Some group members will be coming out again on Wed 15th Feb to help Keep Wales Tidy, Cardiff County Council, Llamau and South Wales Police as they carry out a ‘blitz’ of Cathedral Road and its surrounding streets. Rivers group members will swap litter-pickers for graffiti cleaning materials as they help to remove graffiti from phone boxes and street furniture along the street”, she added.
