A grant of £539.28 has been secured by the group which will enable them to purchase their own stock of equipment and tools. The money has been used to buy litter-pickers, small hand tools, health and safety equipment, grappling hooks and other necessary items for their practical projects to improve the rivers of Cardiff.
Keeping Wales tidy can a dirty business and sometimes accidents do happen, but the group members do not have to worry about raising funds to pay for insurance this year as they have recently secured FREE insurance cover from Keep Wales Tidy.
Group treasurer, Cath Leggett said, ”This grant from Keep Wales Tidy is very welcome indeed. Until now we have had to borrow equipment for each clean-up, but we are now well resourced and have enough tools for all our volunteers. The new KWT group insurance scheme is a fantastic initiative. Our application was quickly approved and we can now carry out our practical activities safe in the knowledge that all volunteers are adequately insured”.
The group will be using their new equipment this Saturday, 20th February when they conduct their monthly clean up of the River Taff. All volunteers are asked to meet in the car park of Pontcanna Fields changing rooms at 10am. All equipment will be give out and then volunteers will walk over to the river at Blackweir to do a litter-pick of the riverbanks.
Through the Tidy Towns Project, Keep Wales Tidy is able to offer financial assistance to community groups who have demonstrated a commitment to restoring their communities to their former glory.
The cash support and insurance scheme has been made possible by funding from the Welsh Assembly Government Local Environmental Quality Department.
