Next CRG group event: St Mellons, Sunday 2nd February

The next Cardiff Rivers Group event is on Sunday, the 2nd of February cleaning up the stream west of the Faendre Reen in St Mellons.

Here, the Cardiff Rivers Group will join forces with Wales & West Housing and the Cath Cobb Environmental Group with financial support from the Cardiff East Neighbourhood Management Group and the St Mellons Compact  (Wales & West, Hafod & Linc-Cymru Housing Associations).

The area to be tackled stretches half a mile from Crickhowell Road to Willowbrook Road along the stream. The area has been neglected and is incredibly littered with all kinds of rubbish. It’s in dire need of a spring clean.

We are hoping that the event attracts a large group of volunteers. There will be a group of people working in the stream wearing waders and wellies as well a larger group providing support and cleaning up the along the wet banks.

We will start at the rendezvous point shown on the map near the middle of the area, where Caerleon Close meets the park. From here we’ll split into two groups working towards Crickhowell Road to Willowbrook Road.

For those unfamiliar with the area, see the map below which shows the car parks and meeting place.

Chris Walton, Housing Manager at Wales & West Housing said: “ I would like to thank all those supporting this green project to clean up the Faendre Reen,  a green lung through the St Mellons estate.  In particular, Cardiff East Neighbourhood Management Group and the St Mellons Compact for their financial support, as well as Cardiff Rivers Group, Cath Cobb Environmental Group and Cardiff Waste Management, without whose excellent operational support we would not have been able to carry out this very worthwhile project.”
